Perforated is a simple side table constructed from four sheet-steel legs and a solid-wood tabletop. The pieces are cut by a computer-controlled router, shipped completely flat, and the assembled by the purchaser at home. The table is formed by folding the sheet steel legs along the perforations and then pressing them into a groove on the underside of the tabletop. The groove cut into the tabletop provides a natural passage for electrical cords to reach the floor. Perforated's unique construction lends itself well to online mass-customization; purchasers could combine various leg shapes and colors with multiple tabletop shapes, and have a customized table shipped to their home. + Exhibited at Design Within Reach on North Kingsbury Ave in Chicago for the 2007 Chicago Furniture Now competition. + Perforated is currently in production development-- for purchasing or licensing enquiries, please contact . |
