Less thinking, more making.
- London design studio, Viable London, recently launched their new website. I met Charles Trevelyan a few years back during the Salone in Milan, and can say that not only is his work extremely strong, he's also a super-nice guy. Judging from the website, he's also extremely prolific!
- The Elica Folding Chair has a really nice continuous surface detail between the back leg and the backrest.
- Proof as to why all schools need uniforms. Really tight-fitting uniforms. Lycra pants, Spandex tops. You never know where a kid might hide a shotgun.
- Monome. I've never seen 64 plain rubber keys look so damn cool. This open-source digital music interface seems to bring back the tactile quality that is lacking in so many computer-interface devices by preserving an open and adaptable design that can be used in millions of ways. Watch this video and understand.
- Stockholm-based designer, Marie-Louise Gustafsson has some delightfully witty furniture pieces-- the Slacker Chair and the Table of Trash are really nice.
- Public bike rack and pump-- very sharp.
- More proof that fixed-gear bikes are entering the mainstream: the Wall Street Journal has a cover story on them in today's Weekend & Leisure section. The writer seems to overly focus on the 'no brakes' novelty of riding a fixie, but overall it's a decent write up. (Unfortunately you have to be a member to view online,
perhaps I will scan it later and stick it on Flickr. 01 02)
